Starting from v2.3, A.A.A.R. is able to manage multiple installations of Alfresco. Bundled you can set the default Alfresco installation using the installation wizard, but if you need you can easily set all the Alfresco installations you have, without any specific limitation.
How to set up A.A.A.R.
As described in the documentation of the A.A.A.R. data mart, a specific table called ‘dm_dim_alfresco’ is dedicated to store all the multiple installations of Alfresco you want to manage and analyze. Below a brief description of the structure of the ‘dm_dim_alfresco’ table.
By default the table comes with a single Alfresco installation, described as ‘Default Alfresco instance’ (the ‘id’ field is equal to 1). The contents of other fields are quite easy to understand and the installation wizard is a good help for the first time configuration.
If you want to add all the multiple installations of Alfresco you want to manage and analyze, without any limitations in number and dimension, you have simply to add one row per installation in the ‘dm_dim_alfresco’ table. To set the fields correctly, the suggestion is to start from the values of the row you will find by default. The most important thing is to give to each row a different value for the ‘id’ field. The value you are going to give to the ‘desc’ field is the one that A.A.A.R. will show as description of the Alfresco installation in all the dashboards, reports and front-end in general.
The extraction process
After having properly set up all the ‘dm_dim_alfresco’ rows (one per Alfresco’s installation) you can proceed running the extraction phase (the ‘AAAR_Extract’ script). The script will iterate on each instance of the multiple installations of Alfresco, with a different extraction in the A.A.A.R. Data Mart. All the data stored in the A.A.A.R. Data Mart, refers to the correct Alfresco installation by the ‘alfresco_id’ field. As usual, during the extraction process, take a look to the log file to check for problems or misconfigurations.
If you plan to add all the multiple installations of Alfresco in different moments, one by one or in groups, no matter. The extraction process will manage everything for you and will treat every different Alfresco instance separately without any implication with the other ones.
How to analyze every Alfresco installation
Once you have properly run the extraction from all the multiple installations of Alfresco, you can start analyzing your data as usual, using dashboards and reports. The dashboards comes by default to the default Alfresco instance but you can easily change the Alfresco installation from the drop down menu you can find in the dashboards. Below an example of the main dashboard.
Even in the reports you can decide between all the multiple installations of Alfresco. Below an example of selection in one of the reports released bundled in the A.A.A.R. installation.
